New focus in UNSDCF for Belarus for 2021-2025

28.10.2019

In the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for Belarus for 2021-2025 the focus will be placed on cooperation instead of support, UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki said in an interview to the Nedelya TV show aired on the STV on 27 October, BelTA has learned.

“The Sustainable Development Goals will be the basis for our cooperation. What will differentiate the new program is the emphasis on cooperation instead of support, which has been the subject of our collaboration in the past. Now the focus is on cooperation,” Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki said.

According to her, the emphasis is shifting from support to partnership, because it is already clear that no single UN organization can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals alone. Therefore, there is a need for a coalition and advice on who else can be involved in the process of sustainable development.

Minsk played host to the national consultations on the priorities of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Belarus for 2021-2025. “We have launched consultations with national partners, inviting government institutions, all national institutions, centers, NGOs, trade unions, religious organizations which can give us new priorities for the United Nations Organization,” Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki said.

As BelTA reported earlier, until now the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) has been the basic document for cooperation between Belarus and the United Nations. Two programs for 2011-2015 and 2016-2020 were implemented. A new UN program document for Belarus will be prepared in early 2020.
