Panchenko on international response to Lukashenko's interview

11.09.2023

Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko shared her opinion on Ukrainians' response to her interview with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.

Commenting on the developments following her August interview with Aleksandr Lukashenko, Diana Panchenko said: “The resonance in Ukraine was simply stunning. The number of views was huge, but that is not even the most important point. This interview was quoted by Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian mass media, and even the world media. Aleksandr Lukashenko voiced plenty of new and very important information in this interview. The tone of the messages heard in the Ukrainian media was expectable. Today all Ukrainian media are very strictly censored by the authorities and the tone could not be different. This does not mean, however, that Ukrainians did not hear Aleksandr Grigoryevich [Lukashenko]. I know for sure that they did hear him.”

“There was probably not a single media outlet, television channel, or opinion leader that would not have provided feedback to this interview. A great number of journalists made almost movies, compiled big materials, separate analyses of this interview. They said a lot of things, like for example that questions were written in the Kremlin, a lot of such nonsense. The most important message, perhaps, came from the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine that this was a conversation with Ukrainians and with the West. Indeed, it was first of all a conversation between Lukashenko and the Ukrainians.”
