Belarus' fall in export to EAEU market due to pandemic smallest among EAEU members

09.09.2020

MOSCOW, 9 September (BelTA) – Belarus has reported the smallest decrease in export to the EAEU market due to the COVID-19 pandemic among the EAEU member states, assistant to the chairman of the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Iya Malkina said as she took part in an online briefing on 9 September, BelTA has learned.

“In the current situation, mutual trade definitely went down in all the EAEU countries and totaled $24 billion in H1. This fall came at over 14% year-on-year,” Iya Malkina said. “At the same time, Belarus saw the smallest decrease in supplies to the common market – just 6.1%. Belarus' export to the EAEU countries amounted to about $6.5 billion,” she added.

According to her, Kyrgyzstan's export suffered the highest drop – by 25%, its export to the EAEU totaled just $219.5 million. “Other countries also supplied less to the EAEU: Armenia's export went down by 18% ($273.5 million), Kazakhstan's – by 19.7% ($2.39 billion), and Russia's by 16% ($15.18 billion),” Iya Malkina noted.

She pointed out that the trade within the EAEU began to revive in June. “In comparison with May, trade grew by around 14.6%,” she remarked.
