In the Minsk region, a method for reducing livestock mortality has been found and will now be replicated

02.03.2026

In the Minsk Region, technologies have been identified that will help ensure the safety of young cattle. One approach is to build modern health centers for calves. Such a model facility at the dairy complex of OJSC Nestanovichi-Agro was visited by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, BELTA reports.

"Considerable attention is being paid to the safety of livestock in the Minsk Region. Weather conditions associated with low temperatures at the beginning of the year revealed a number of problematic issues, particularly in the care of young animals. Some of these young animals are kept outdoors. We saw the need to make drastic decisions," Alexey Kushnarenko, Chairman of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee, told reporters.

For this very purpose, the experience of Nestanovichi-Agro OJSC was studied. A calf care facility was built there two years ago and has proven itself in practice. "It is operating successfully. Since the beginning of this year, there have been virtually no deaths here. Literally two heads in two months, and that was due to objective reasons related to the health of these animals,” the head of the region noted.

According to him, they decided to use the health resort in this farm as a basis and a number of other parameters. "It's quick to build, inexpensive, and uses wood, of which we have plenty. Therefore, a decision was made to build 111 such sanatoriums in the Minsk region this year in order to relocate 20,000 calves there," said Alexey Kushnarenko. "We worked out step by step the timeframe, who should do what, and what should be done to complete this task. Literally next week, we plan to gather all the district executive committee chairmen here so they can see firsthand how it works."

The Chairman of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee stated that discipline must be the foundation of everything and the so-called human factor must be minimized. To this end, a video surveillance system has been installed at the Nestanovichi-Agro OJSC health center. Modern equipment is also being introduced.

Furthermore, such innovations... This also means comfortable working conditions for people, not just for keeping animals.

As reported by BELTA, the President of Belarus generally approved of the project, although he does not consider this option the most cost-effective: "I must say, this is a rich one. I've seen other calf barns and health centers. If there is money, so be it. But this is not possible everywhere."

Alexander Lukashenko recalled his instruction that, if necessary, calves from neighboring farms be transferred to similar places if there is no possibility of ensuring their safety there.

"Good A health resort. A month (we're talking about the speed of construction. - BELTA note). I ordered these structures. You arrive, stamp them, pour concrete. Nothing complicated. The bosses (can provide assistance. - BELTA note) are also very technologically advanced, no need to invent anything, - said the President. - A good health resort for calves. We need to replicate it." -0-
