MINSK, 12 January (BelTA) – Maksim Bogdanovich’s poems were recited in six languages in a soiree at the Minsk House of Friendship on 11 January. The event celebrated the presentation of a collection of the poet’s works published to mark his 120th birthday, BelTA has learnt. According to Chairwoman of the Presidium of the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Links with Foreign Countries Nina Ivanova, three poems of this outstanding poet were published in 10 languages in this unique collection consisting of three books. The collection features poems Slutskiya Tkachykhi, Pagonya, Ramans which have been translated into Bulgarian, Lithuanian, Latvian, German, Ukrainian, French, English and other languages. At the soiree Maksim Bogdanovich’s poems were read in the French, German, English, Bulgarian, Ukrainian and Lithuanian languages. They were recited by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Belarus Rosemary Thomas, head of the Lithuanian diplomatic mission Edminas Bagdonas, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Peter Dettmar, Ukraine’s permanent representative in the CIS Ivan Bunechko, deputy chairman of the Belarus-Bulgaria society Oksana Bekasova-Bubnova. Mrs Rosemary Thomas told media that people in Great Britain know and value Maksim Bogdanovich’s works. In her words, his brilliant poetry and the Belarusian language in general should be more popularized. The diplomat stressed she enjoyed the soiree at the House of Friendship. The collection has been published under the auspices of the Belarusian Foundation of Culture, the Culture Ministry of Belarus, the Maksim Bogdanovich Literature Museum in Minsk. БЕЛТА
