MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – Minsk Oblast and Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province have signed a memorandum of understanding. The document was inked by Minsk Oblast Governor Boris Batura and East Azerbaijan Province Governor Ahmad Alireza Beigi, BelTA has learnt. The parties have plans to expand cooperation in economy, trade, science and culture. Minsk Oblast and East Azerbaijan have many common interests. Several major projects involving Iranian investments are being implemented in Minsk Oblast. In January-February 2012, the trade between Minsk Oblast and the Islamic Republic of Iran totaled $8.6 million, up by 36.3% compared with the same period last year. The export was estimated at $7.7 million (the growth rate made 140.7%). Minsk Oblast had a trade surplus of $6.8 million. The major exports to Iran included trucks, engines and electric generators, component parts and equipment for vehicles and tractors. The major imports from Iran were component parts and equipment for vehicles and tractors, nuts, and combustion engines. In 2011, the trade between Minsk Oblast and Iran rose by 87.3% up to $40.5 million. Minsk Oblast exported $36.8 million worth of goods (the growth rate made 187.2%). Minsk Oblast had a trade surplus of $33.1 million. БЕЛТА
