MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – There are plans to make Belarus’ first cars at a Borisov-based joint venture in association with the Chinese company Geely in 2013, Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Boris Batura told media on 1 June. The Borisov-based enterprise Avtogydrousilitel has already started implementing the project. Next year’s car output is expected to be about 10,000. It is premature to talk about specific investment figures, preliminary calculations and negotiations are in progress. However, the investments are expected to be about $250 million. The first Belarusian cars will have to be certified in Russia. According to Boris Batura, certification is a mandatory condition of the project. Assisted by Geely, the construction of a car factory is expected to begin in the free economic zone Minsk near Borisov. A land plot has been apportioned already. БЕЛТА
