MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – New hotels will open in Minsk by the IIHF World Championship 2014, Minsk Mayor Nikolai Ladutko said at a session of the committee in charge of preparation and conduct of the championship. The session was held on 22 August and was led by Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich, BelTA has learnt. A number of new hotels are being constructed in Minsk. A new three star hotel for 100 guests will soon open in International Street in Minsk. President Hotel and Polet will be commissioned after the upgrade. “We have held a tender to construct a hotel in the water park area. I think the construction will be launched in a month. The tender was won by a Turkish company,” Nikolai Ladutko said. A new hotel will open on the territory of the High Tech Park. “At a session at the HTP we arrived at the conclusion that an investor will make no investments into the building at 4 Kuprevicha Street, therefore we will do it ourselves. The hotel to be constructed there will fit into the HTP area very well,” the Minsk Mayor said. People coming to see the championship will be provided with accommodation in student dormitories and several children’s camps that will be specially prepared for the event. Minsk will be able to provide lodging to 20,000 tourists during the championship. Nikolai Ladutko pointed out that the Minsk investment program for the next year will equal Br9-9.5 trillion. It envisages the construction of housing, infrastructure and other facilities for the IIHF World Championship 2014. “We want to commission all the facilities by the end of 2013. Simultaneously, we are working on transport services, security, and a cultural program,” said Nikolai Ladutko. Separately Minsk is working on the volunteer movement involving students. In particular, there are plans to involve students of the Belarusian State Linguistic University to work at receptions desks in hotels. Consideration is also being given to language training of workers of catering and transport organizations. “Attention will be given to healthcare. The city is planning to purchase 15 ambulances and 15 new vehicles for traffic police,” said the Mayor. Special attention needs to be given to the advertising campaign, Nikolai Ladutko noted. "The task is to encourage more people to visit Minsk. The investments are big, and the results should be likewise,” he said. In turn, Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed the importance of public debates of the events planned for the IIHF World Championship. “It is important that the Minsk City Council, the Sport and Tourism Ministry maintain feedback with people. We need to study the opinion of taxi drivers, restaurant owners and other stakeholders on how to organize everything in the best way, how to ensure the most comfortable conditions for residents and visitors to Minsk,” he said. The Prime Minister instructed to make use of mass media for these purposes. БЕЛТА
