MINSK, 28 June (BelTA) – The Independence Day festivities in Minsk Oblast will be attended by delegations of its twin-towns, BelTA learnt from the main ideology department of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee.
On 3 July the delegations will take part in the wreath ceremonies in Khatyn, at the Mound of Glory and the Stalin Line. Districts and cities of Minsk Oblast will host meetings and solemn processions of the Great Patriotic War veterans, representatives of labor collectives and youth to war memorials, flower ceremonies at common graves and war memorials. The festive program will feature concerts, sports and entertainment events, children’s and popular art exhibitions, contests and fireworks.
On 2 July an evening of friendship and presentation of Vileika twin-towns (there are 10 of them) will take place at the Friendship Tree in the central square of Vileika. Soligorsk District will host a youth car run along the places of military glory. Stolbtsy District educational establishments will offer patriotic expeditions Along the Roads of Liberation. Myadel will organize an exhibition of vehicles featuring firefighting, agricultural, road and construction and other special-purpose equipment.
The cultural and tourist facility Vilyanin Khutor will host a medieval tournament with the participation of historical reenactment clubs from Smorgon, Minsk and Molodechno. Borisov District will play host to the 8th local summer sports day among the workers of the agro-industrial complex. Oktyabrskaya Street in Soligorsk will be solemnly opened after renovations.
The culmination of the festivities will be Let’s Sing the Anthem Together event in Molodechno with the participation of the Minsk Oblast officials.
According to the main ideology department of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, in Minsk Oblast there were three partisan groupings, 45 partisan brigades that united 213 teams. The total number of partisans was 55,000 people. There were two underground publishing houses in the oblast that issued two nationwide newspaper (Zvyazda and Chyrvonaya Zmena) and 36 local newspapers. They also issued brochures, leaflets, wall newspapers.
The Nazis arranged three death camps in the territory of Minsk Oblast during the war. 157 villages were burnt to the ground together with their residents.
Over 80 residents of Minsk Oblast were awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union for courage and heroism, thousands of people were awarded medals and orders.
