Borisov accession to European Federation of Napoleonic Cities discussed in Paris

20.02.2014

The European Federation of Napoleonic Cities will submit a draft memorandum on the inclusion of Borisov into the organization in the near future, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian Embassy in France.
The matter was discussed at a meeting of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to France Pavel Latushko and Chairman of the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities Charles Napoleon. The head of the federation shared impressions of his visit to Belarus in January 2014. During this visit he met with senior officials of the Culture Ministry, the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee and the Borisov Town Executive Committee to discuss the accession of Borisov to the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities.
During the talks at the Belarusian Embassy in Paris Pavel Latushko and Charles Napoleon agreed that the inclusion of Borisov into the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities will enhance the tourist appeal of the Belarusian town and the places associated with the War of 1812 and will facilitate cultural and historical contacts with other members of the federation.
Charles Napoleon informed about the preparation for the general conference of the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities that will be held in Spain in 2014. If Borisov signs the memorandum, representatives of the town will also be invited to participate in the conference.
Pavel Latushko and Charles Napoleon discussed a possibility to arrange a Napoleon-themed exhibition at the National History Museum of Belarus as part of the project “Napoleon and Europe” implemented by the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities.
The European Federation of Napoleonic Cities was set up in 2004. Members of the federation are more than 60 cities of Belgium, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Czechia and other European countries. All of them were influenced by the famous French commander. The major objectives of the federation are to facilitate tourist contacts, carry out joint cultural projects, provide support to historians studying the history of Napoleonic wars, and promote cooperation between learning institutions and young people.
