Belarus president informed about Minsk Oblast performance in 2014

23.06.2014

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko had a working meeting with Minsk Oblast Governor Semyon Shapiro on 23 June. Results of the Minsk Oblast economy performance so far this year were discussed among other things at the meeting, BelTA has learned. The head of state was primarily interested in matters concerning the ongoing optimization. “Everything has to be done reasonably and earn money. It is the key thing,” stressed the Belarusian leader. Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that the potential of Minsk Oblast is virtually comparable to the potential of one half of the country. “What is the state of affairs in Minsk Oblast, including the production sector?” the head of state asked. “Don't forget that the governor has to take care of all enterprises in Minsk Oblast, municipal ownership ones and the rest. All of them are important, all of them are significant, and the governor bears responsibility for all of them”. Apart from that, the President was interested in learning about the progress in procuring and securing the quality of forage in agriculture. Semyon Shapiro informed the head of state about the development of the region in detail. In his words, while the region was lagging behind in Q1 2014, in January-May 2014 the gross regional product reached 104.2% as against 2013. The production sector did well (106%) although some branches and individual enterprises need more effort to improve their effectiveness.
