Nesvizh to host Sapiehas' Heritage volunteer camp in summer

27.06.2014

Participants of the second international volunteer camp will be young people aged between 18-30 Volunteers from eight countries will take part in the international volunteer camp called as The Sapiehas' Heritage in the town of Nesvizh (Minsk Oblast) from 11 to 26 July, director of the Sapieha Palace museum Ruslan Kniga told BelTA. Participants of the second international volunteer camp will be young people aged between 18-30 from Belarus, Russia, the Czech Republic, Spain, France, Germany, Ukraine, and Slovakia. All in all, there will be 20 people. The project is carried out under the auspices of the Belarusian Association of UNESCO Clubs with the support of the Pruzhany District Executive Committee and is dedicated to the Year of Hospitality and the 60th anniversary of Belarus' membership in UNESCO. The international volunteer camp The Sapiehas' Heritage is part of the package of measures to implement the state youth policy in 2014 and is aimed at the development of tourism in the region, promotion of the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Belarus, and patriotic education of youth. According to Ruslan Kniga, the volunteers will work daily on the grounds of the ruined Sapieha Palace, which is currently undergoing renovations, and other historical sites: a synagogue, Holy Trinity and St. Kazimir churches. Boys and girls will help the restorers remove construction garbage and will do some landscaping work. “I would like to mention that the volunteers will also work on the unique burial of the Yotvingians dating back to the 14-15th centuries in the village of Shpaki, Pruzhany District. The volunteers will help clean up this place from shrubs and other vegetation and will install information boards here,” Ruslan Kniga added. By the way, the international team of volunteers will live in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, which is also a specimen of architecture. Ruzhany Palace was built by Grand Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Lew Sapieha and is one of the largest examples of the palace architecture of the 17-18th centuries. Restoration works on the palace were launched in 2008. Currently, the museum has five exhibition halls.
