Most of reconstruction of Belarusian sport facility Raubichi to end by August

21.07.2014

Most of the work required to reconstruct the national Olympic training center for winter sports Raubichi is supposed to be finished by early August, BelTA learned from Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich during the visit to the sport complex on 18 July. “I think we can agree with the construction workers, who say that the bulk of the work will be finished in early August while everything required for a full-value training process will be finished by 20-25 August,” said the Prime Minister after he was made familiar with the progress of the reconstruction. Individual operations that will not affect the quality of training may be continued after the specified dates. In order to do quality work on time, the government has decided to assign experienced construction workers from Minsk and the oblast as well as other regions to the project. Now qualified construction personnel from Brest and Gomel work at the site, too. The head of government noted that Raubichi is a unique facility. It is one of the world's best biathlon facilities, which can offer training to other kinds of athletes, too such as ice hockey players, skiers, and ice skaters. Apart from repairing and modernizing the facility the project is supposed to produce a world-level facility. According to the Prime Minister, it has been accomplished. According to Raubichi Director Andrei Astashevich, so far they have reconstructed the sheltered firing range, stands for 2,500 seats that comply with international norms, cabins for waxing skis, and cottages for 150 people where athletes can change their clothes and live if necessary because the cottages have heating, shower rooms, and toilets. Apart from that, underground passages to the start line, the finish line, and waxing cabins have been built. A new firing range with digital target systems has been built. According to the Prime Minister, the facility now costs about Br670 billion. Work is in full swing in Raubichi now because in February 2015 it is supposed to host a junior world biathlon championship. Everything should be done to enable proper standards for the athletes, tourists, and fans, noted the Prime Minister. By that time Raubichi will get two small hotels, relevant amenities and the rest. The Belarusian national Olympic training center for winter sports Raubichi was commissioned in February 1974. It is designed to allow training sessions and competitions in biathlon, skiing race, Nordic combined, slalom, ice skating, freestyle skating, snowboarding. In 1996 the International Biathlon Union certified Raubichi as an A category stadium that can host any kind of competitions without exceptions.
