Belarus harvests seven million tonnes of grain

05.08.2014

Belarusian agrarians have already harvested more than seven million tonnes of grain, BelTA learnt from the Agriculture and Food Ministry. As of 5 August, the total harvest in the country exceeded 7.287 million tonnes of grain. Over 1.740 million tonnes is a contribution of Minsk Oblast. Grodno Oblast has so far cropped more than 1.324 million, Brest Oblast – 1.252 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1,162 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.158 million tonnes, and Vitebsk Oblast – 651,000 tonnes of grain. The average grain yield in Belarus is 39.8 centers per hectare, which is 6.3 centners more than last year. Grodno Oblast has the biggest yield of almost 50 centners per hectare. Brest and Minsk Oblasts follow with 42 and 41.7 centners per hectare respectively.  According to specialists, high yield will secure a record harvest of grain this year. Taking into account maize, Belarus is aimed at the crop of 10 million tonnes.
