A biathlon stadium at the National Olympic Winter Sports Center Raubichi will be commissioned in August 2014, Architecture and Construction Minister Anatoly Cherny told media on 6 August, BelTA has learned. “A number of construction projects in the sport industry are underway in the country. One of the projects, i.e. the construction of a biathlon stadium in Raubichi, will be completed in August 2014,” the minister noted. He stressed that taking into account the achievements Belarus has reached in this sport the stadium will be a real present for both athletes and residents of the country. “We should continue developing this sport. The facility will allow the country hosting international competitions,” Anatoly Cherny stressed. The National Olympic winter Sports Center Raubichi was commissioned in February 1974. The center is designed for training and competitions in biathlon, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, ski jumping, slalom, speed skating, freestyle and snowboard. The center played host to the Biathlon World Championships in 1974, 1976, 1982, and 1990, European Biathlon Championships in 1998 and 2004, the FIS Cross-Country World Cup in 1991, European Freestyle Cups in 1995 and 2006. The sport center Raubichi received the UIPMB gold medal in 1982.
