In the Borisov and Krupsky districts of the Minsk region, a system
for collecting and processing used oils was created, the head of the
waste management department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and
Environmental Protection, Ruslan Mikhalevich, said at a press conference
today, BelTA has learned.
"The pilot initiative to organize the collection and processing
of used oils in Borisov and Krupsky districts is being completed, the
tasks have been fulfilled in full," said Ruslan Mikhalevich.
Deputy Chairman of the Council of the NGO "Environmental
Initiative", the head of the pilot initiative Olga Volkova noted that in
Borisov and Krupsky districts 50 specialized containers for the
collection of used oils were installed. "It is planned to install
another 20 containers, six collection points have been created for the
collection of used oils from the population," she added. Transportation
of waste oil from the collection points to the processing site is
ensured by a specially developed logistic scheme. The processing of the
collected oils is established at the complex "Dvc-Management", opened in
2015 in Krupki. Innovative for Belarus system will allow to collect and
process 10 tons of used oil per quarter, and therefore avoid pollution
of the environment with hazardous waste.
The pilot system was created by the NGO "Environmental
Initiative" under the project "Facilitating the transition of the
Republic of Belarus to a green economy", financed by the EU and
implemented by the United Nations Development Program in partnership
with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of
Belarus. This project assists Belarus in developing economic growth
based on green principles, including environmentally sustainable and
economically viable use of natural resources, promoting environmentally
sustainable production and consumption, creating green jobs, changing
behavior patterns and functioning of target groups towards greater
environmental sustainability . The project budget is 5 million euros.
