17.08.2017

The regional holiday-competition for weaving "matchyny krosny" will be held on August 19 in the city of Staraya Dorogi (Minsk region). This was reported by BelTA in the Minsk Regional Center of Folk Art

The regional holiday-competition for weaving "matchyny krosny" will be held on August 19 in the city of Staraya Dorogi (Minsk region). This was reported by BelTA in the Minsk Regional Center of Folk Art.
The event is aimed at preserving and reviving the traditions of folk weaving. The festival will open with the "Parade of Handicraft" parade, where each delegation will present a towel or belt that is characteristic of its region.
The competition includes an exhibition of home works prepared in advance for the event, and a competition for speed and quality. In three hours the masters should demonstrate the technological and artistic level in accordance with the traditions of their region and execute a fragment of any traditional product (towel, napkin, belt). The jury includes leading experts-ethnographers and art historians, members of the Belarusian Union of Masters of Folk Art, and the chairman of this union, doctor of art criticism, Professor Yevgeny Sakhuta will head the jury.
The program of the event also includes a historical exhibition, a master class for weaving, a fair for crafts. In the city park will be placed improvised agricultural farmsteads, a children's playground will open. The performances of amateur groups from Slutsk, Cherven, Krupsky, Nesvizh and Starodorozhsky districts are planned.
The Minsk Regional Center for Folk Art noted that in the Starodorozhsky district various kinds of folk textiles are widely spread, which led to the behavior of the regional festival "Matchna krosny" here. For the first time it was organized in 2000, is held once every three years, and in 2017 became regional.
Weaving is one of the most popular handicrafts in Minsk region, 104 masters work in the region, 19 of them are the people's master of Belarus (7 of them live in Kopylsky district, 4 in Starodorozhsky). In the village of Semejevo, Kopylsky District, the only weaving center in the Minschina - the Semegev tradition of making red and white towels - was granted the status of the intangible cultural heritage of Belarus in 2011. In 2013, the list of objects of intangible cultural heritage was enriched by the tradition of weaving belts in Volozhinsky district.
