More than 70% of those killed in the fires in 2018 in the Minsk region were intoxicated, BelTA learned from the senior assistant prosecutor of the region, Vladimir Nepotupny. Last year, 1,589 fires occurred in the region, which is 22.4% more than in 2017. 154 people were killed, including two children. The largest number of fires with deaths was registered on the territory of the Borisov, Minsk, Pukhovichi, Slutsk, Molodechno, Logoisk districts. The main causes of fires in the homes of citizens are careless handling of fire while smoking (33%), violation of the rules for operation and installation of furnaces and heat generating devices (27%), violation of the rules of operation and installation of electrical networks and electrical equipment (19%). The prosecutor's office of the region carried out an inspection of the fulfillment by local executive and administrative bodies, territorial divisions of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, public formations of the requirements of legislation on the prevention of fires in the residential sector, death and injury to people in them. It turned out that, despite the measures taken, the work of the inspection commissions of the possel-executive committees in this regard is still not systematic in nature, is ineffective. The chairmen of garden associations are not fully involved in the implementation of preventive measures. For their part, there is no organized control over the way of life of people living in the territory of partnerships, including the fire condition of households.
