Minsk City Hall is still inclined to build an incineration plant based on a CHP instead of building an independent enterprise. But the site has not been chosen yet, Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Anatoly Sivak said today during a direct telephone line, BelTA informs.
"The question is in setting the boiler on liquid fuel, gas or fuel extracted from garbage. We are still inclined to think that the plant should be at CHP. Because economics decide everything. If you build a separate plant where garbage is concentrated, the question of transportation in the case of CHP, the entire infrastructure already exists, "explained Anatoly Sivak. Which of the boiler rooms will be more suitable for this will depend on the proposed project. "It is necessary that the experts come with calculations that we will evaluate," the mayor said.
The construction of an incinerator involves a national strategy for the treatment of municipal solid waste and secondary material resources in Belarus for the period up to 2035. The need to build such an object is due to the fact that there is a high population density in the capital, and the possibilities for the disposal of municipal waste are limited. The global practice of recycling and incineration allows to drastically reduce their number - by 60-80% of the initial mass, depending on the composition of the waste and processing technology. In addition, the combustion of the non-recyclable part of the waste will produce energy (thermal and electrical).
Regarding the separate collection and disposal of waste, Anatoly Sivak noted that for the beginning, the city needs all the resources to be sent for recycling. “Not to bury, but to extract secondary raw materials as much as possible. In this part there are plans for which we are already a little late,” he said. “We are conducting a dialogue with a private company that does not fulfill its obligations to build it.”
