Belarus' Sport and Tourism Ministry warns against travel to China

29.01.2020

Belarus' Sport and Tourism Ministry is warning Belarusians not to travel to China, BelTA learned from the press service of the ministry.

“Due to the sanitary-epidemiological situation in the People's Republic of China caused by an outbreak of a new coronavirus, and in order to prevent the virus infection, the Sport and Tourism Ministry recommends citizens of Belarus not to visit China in the near future,” the press service said.

“Those tourists who have already purchased tours and want to cancel them have the right to address the travel company with which they cooperated for the postponement of the tour or a change of the tour program to other countries that do not pose a threat to life or health. Tourists are also entitled to a full refund,” the ministry said. The ministry has posted recommendations on its website for those who still intend to go to China. The ministry advises travelers to ask the travel agency for proper instructions on personal safety.

The ministry also advises to avoid visiting seafood, live poultry and animal markets, farms, as well as contacts with animals and birds. It is recommended to avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of acute respiratory infections. It is also recommended to stay in close contact with representatives of the travel agency and follow their instructions in case of unforeseen events. The ministry also recommends to minimize contacts with others within 14 days back home, not to attend mass events and to monitor changes in health status.

In case of fever, cough or dyspnea, it is advised to immediately consult a doctor, i.e. call an ambulance in order to minimize contacts with others. It is necessary to tell the doctors about the symptoms and the fact of visiting the country where cases of Coronavirus 2019-nCoV infection have been registered. As of 28 January, five requests from Belarusian individuals were received to cancel their trips to China. The situation is under control, the Sport and Tourism Ministry said.
