The practice of recent years shows that the demand for temporary employment is growing among young people. This was stated by the head of the department for the organization of the work of the state employment service and alternative service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, Sergei Katsko.
According to him, in 2024, with the assistance of the employment service, more than 55 thousand young people were employed, mostly minors.
He noted that work to create working conditions for young people is ongoing, and especially active on the eve of the summer holidays.
Thus, in the country, young people aged 14 to 16 can work only 23 hours a week, while teenagers over 16 are allowed to work a maximum of 35 hours.
«The daily workload is distributed as follows: schoolchildren under 16 can work no more than 4 hours 36 minutes a day during the holidays, and older teenagers — up to 7 hours. During the school year, the working day is significantly reduced: younger students are allowed to work only 2 hours 18 minutes a day, older students — up to 3 hours 30 minutes,» said Sergei Katsko.
He added that the wages of teenagers, despite the reduced working hours, should be paid in the same amount as workers of the corresponding categories with full daily work.
In addition, the specialist recalled that in our country there is a list of light jobs that minors can get. For example, children can get a job delivering light goods to homes, performing basic work on disassembling and assembling mechanisms, assembling furniture using the simplest metalworking tools, working as florists, working in reference and information, dispatch services, etc.
In addition, this year in Belarus the list of jobs for which it is prohibited to hire persons under 18 was revised.
