MINSK, February 16 (BelTA) - Seven wonders of nature of the Minsk oblast were chosen through the Internet voting on the official web-site of the Minsk Oblast Committee of the Belarusian National Union of Youth, BelTA learnt from head of the BNUY’s press centre Oksana Kozinova. A primordial dweller of the Earth merostomes eurypterid whose remains were found in Soligorsk became the absolute winner of the project. This finding is 25 cm long and 370 million years old. It polled more than 1200 votes. The most remarkable natural sites include the picturesque lake of Naroch, the Viliya River and the island-castle on the lake of Myadel with the undestroyed remains of the 11th century town fortifications which belong to the border fortress of the Polotsk principality. The seven wonders also include the Kletsk 400-year-old oak (23 meters high, 3-4 people to embrace it), the Borisov boulder, the Vorotishin cross (a boulder with incused cross and various inscriptions). The visitors of the web-site also noted the Vileika storage lake, weeping spruce (Vileika) and the Blue Lakes Area (Myadel). Minsk Oblast’s Seven Wonders of Nature Project was launched on November 19, 2008. Any person could vote for any of 34 most interesting natural monuments from various regions of the Minsk oblast.
