MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) – In H1 2009, the Minsk oblast commissioned more than 642,000 square metres of housing, BelTA learnt from the construction and architecture department of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee. In January-June 2009, the Minsk oblast commissioned 157 apartments for large families, 34 social apartments and more than 740 houses (apartments) in rural areas. All in all, in 2009, the Minsk oblast is expected to commission 1 million 87,000 square metres of housing. According to specialists, the volumes of housing construction in the Minsk oblast are the highest in the country. In 2008, the Minsk oblast commissioned 943.5 thousand square metres of housing. The region takes the lead in housing construction per capita (0.67 square metres). The most active rates of housing construction are registered in the Minsk, Soligorsk, Borisov, Smolevichi and Molodechno regions. As of January 1, 2009, 89,000 families were on a waiting list for better housing including 64,000 families in towns and 25,000 families in rural areas.
