MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – The Minsk oblast plans to build eight biogas units by 2012. Their capacities will range from 1MW to 3MW, Valery Skakun, deputy chairman of the Minsk oblast executive committee, told a press conference on innovative projects. The construction with the use of foreign investment is already in progress in the Snov agricultural company (50% complete) and Lan farm. The construction will be launched soon in the Borisov, Slutsk and Minsk regions. The total volume of investment will amount to $30 million. Increasing the use of local fuels, production waste and alternative energy is one of the areas of innovative development of the Minsk oblast, Valery Skakun said. Boiler houses are converted into mini CHP plants in Fanipol (3MW), Myadel (1MW) and Machulishchi (2.8MW). The aggregate capacity of the boilers running on local fuels to be commissioned in 2010 will reach 20MW. “These projects allow using natural gas to generate electrical and heat energy more efficiently,” Valery Skakun said. By 2012 the Minsk oblast is set to increase the share of local fuels in the fuel consumption mix by 25%. БЕЛТА
