MINSK, 26 July (BelTA) – Over 50 CCTV will be installed in the forests of Minsk Oblast by 2015 for fire alarm purposes, BelTA learnt from Sergei Senkevich, the chief of the department for protection, forest protection, hunting an hunting tourism of the Minsk forestry association. Now there are 13 such systems consisting of cameras mounted on a fire tower at a height of 30-35 meters and an information processing unit. The cameras are connected to the control center which allows for the real-time monitoring of the status of forests and responding quickly to incidents. In the event of smoke the system is able to accurately determine the coordinates of the source, and a fire is eliminated in a very short period. The Minsk region has used cameras for fire safety purposes for several years already, and this practice has proved effective, according to Sergei Sinkevich. To get all forests under surveillance two or three cameras are needed per forestry. All in all, there were 225 cases of fires in the Minsk region last year. Most fires occur because of the negligence and carelessness of residents (211 cases). This year, as of July 1, there were 17 forest fires covering the area of 3.64 hectares. The hot weather in July did not case much damage as heat took turns with rain. Long periods of dry weather increase the probability of fire. Pukhovichi District is subject to fire risks as it has a lot of peat deposits, so are Liuban, Starobino, Krupki and Minsk districts. The most fire dangerous periods are April - early May and also August-September. БЕЛТА
