MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – Over 60% of Minsk Oblast residents trust local authorities, Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Boris Batura told reporters on 13 May, BelTA has learnt. A survey was held in the oblast to find out how people evaluate the work of the local authorities. According to Boris Batura, the authorities work well, however, some drawbacks exist. He added though that not all issues can be solved overnight. The overall number of petitions has increased, which is attributed to a great number of meetings and teleconferences held by the Minsk Oblast Governor and other top ranking officials of the oblast. The number of repeat petitions has fallen, which demonstrates the efficiency of the work of the government. The bulk of petitions deals with housing and utilities services (25-30% of all the petitions), road maintenance, and provision of gas supply. Many petitions concern land use disputes. According to Boris Batura, those are the most “inconvenient” issues as they are almost impossible to settle. The local authorities also come across “professional” petitioners. The Minsk Oblast Governor emphasized that not only local authorities are responsible for creating comfortable living conditions for citizens; citizens also have some obligations. Dependency should not be condoned. For example, owners of detached houses should take care of the surrounding area themselves. БЕЛТА
