MINSK, 4 July (BelTA) – Minsk Oblast will ramp up the production of vegetables to 137,000 tonnes by 2015 in line with the program of potato, vegetable and fruit growing development for 2011-2015, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee. In 2011 Minsk Oblast agricultural companies are expected to produce 122,000 tonnes of vegetables. The program has defined 19 companies which will account for 70% of the total production of vegetables. The range of cultivated crops will become broader as well. There are plans to ramp up the production of seeds, revamp vegetable storage facilities and install new equipment. It is also essential to improve the systems of retail sale and vegetable stocking. Minsk Oblast is eager to sponsor the improvement of the material and technical base of vegetable growing organizations, farmsteads and processing companies. There are plans to buy new equipment and machines (cabbage and carrot harvesters, container trucks, drying plants, cultivators, etc.) Two integrated complexes to produce, store and sell vegetables will be set up at Zhdanovichi and Rassvet agricultural companies of Minsk District. The program will help raise the efficiency of the vegetable growing industry, satisfy the demand for qualitative vegetables, reduce the import of vegetables by 50% and boost agricultural export. All related costs are to go down by 20-30%. The program will be financed from the national and regional budgets, the companies’ own funds and loans. The program is expected to pay off within 2-3 years. БЕЛТА
