MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) – The Education Ministry of the Republic of Belarus sent a package of application papers to the Bologna Secretariat on 29 November in a move to joint the European space for higher education, BelTA learnt from First Deputy Education Minister Alexander Zhuk. “We confirmed Belarus’ interest to take part in the integration processes for further development of the European space for higher education,” Alexander Zhuk said. Both the pedagogical and student communities of the country acknowledge that the accession to the European space for higher education is a long process and support the initiative. Belarus is ready to take up commitments to introducing the provisions of the Bologna declaration into the national education system and suggests considering the issue of including the country into the list of Bologna member states at the next Bologna ministerial conference on 26-27 April 2012. Since 2002 Belarus has been introducing gradually the Bologna declaration principles into the national education system. The country has recently made great headway in the development of the national higher education system. There has been introduced a two-level system of higher education and new-generation educational standards. The introduction of university quality management systems and their certification by international agencies is nearing completion. Among other ongoing processes is a wide social support of students, measures to expand international academic mobility, gradual introduction of the national credit system and its coordination with ECTS. Belarus’ tertiary school has a guaranteed state systemic support under the governmental and sectoral programs. The country secures free access to higher education, provides equal and objective terms to enter the university. A number of higher education events and programs take into account Bologna recommendations and orient universities to a full-fledged participation in the European education system. БЕЛТА
