MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Belarusian senators are set to ratify the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Commission at the 7th session of the Council of the Republic on 8 December, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Council of the Republic. Under the Treaty, the Commission of the Customs Union will cease to exist after relevant domestic procedures and in fact will be absorbed by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). The Eurasian Economic Commission will have more than 170 authorities and functions. The Eurasian Economic Commission will follow the principles of mutual benefit, equality and observation of national interests of the parties to the agreement, economic feasibility of decisions, openness, transparency and objectivity. As the commission is supposed to perform compound functions, the agreement envisages its two-level structure – the Council and the Board. The share of Belarusian representatives in the commission will make up 6%. Kazakhstan will take a 10% representation in the commission while Russia will hold 84%.However, citizens of all three states should be represented in each category of posts. The EEC will be based on such principles as equality and transparency. Decisions will be adopted by consensus. On the initiative of Belarus, chairmanship in the Board will be rotated. The document provides for the re-organization of the EurAsEC Interstate Council into the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council at the level of heads of state and heads of government. In addition, the agenda of the session includes the draft law on amendments and additions to the law of the Republic of Belarus “On the fight against corruption”. MPs will also consider the draft law “On amendments and additions to certain laws of the Republic of Belarus”.
