LOGOISK, 17 April (BelTA) – European companies are ready to invest in development of underwear manufacturing in Belarus, Alexander Bykov, representative of Eurovet (France), the world leading tradeshow organizer in lingerie and swimwear, said at the 6th international business meeting Lingerie and Hosiery, BelTA has learnt. “The sewing industry in Belarus is now more competitive than ever. Lingerie manufacturing in Belarus might be very promising and can enter the European market, at first in the form of outsourcing through placing orders, then via advancing its own brands. This combination may bring benefits to both the European and Belarusian companies,” Alexander Bykov said. The interest of European companies in the Belarusian light industry is dictated not only by a lack of production space in North Africa. According to Alexander Bykov, Eurovet would like to see Milavitsa and Imelda as full-fledged participants of the Paris saloon. “This will require investment from these companies. However, without the development of the trademark and design, the companies of the sewing sector and the light industry as a whole will end up noncompetitive. Besides, the Paris tradeshow will help find answers to many questions the companies have today. The exhibition will open the door to Europe’s large retail networks that promote lingerie sales. The producers are unable to do this alone,” Alexander Bykov said. He stressed that Milavitsa had already integrated into the European fashion industry. “This company, a flagship of the national sewing industry, the pride of Belarus, has reached its record-high production output – nearly 20 million items per year,” the expert added. Partaking in the international business meeting Lingerie and Hosiery in the Logoisk center are about 15 producers of lingerie and hosiery of Belarus. Owners of retail stores in Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and over 80 businessmen from 44 Russian cities have come to study the assortment. Yuri Siparov, representative of the Imelda company, the organizer of the event on Belarus’ behalf, noted that the forum would give a great opportunity for domestic producers to establish contacts with potential European and Russian partners.
