MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – The cooperation between Belarus and the Republic of Korea is advancing to a brand new level, Education Minister of Belarus Sergei Maskevich said at a solemn reception timed to the national holiday of the Republic of Korea on 3 October, BelTA has learnt. The minister emphasized that Belarus and Korea have developed long-standing cooperation. The relations with the Republic of Korea are among the most important foreign policy priorities of Belarus. He noted that “our country highly values the increasing role of the Republic of Korea on the international arena; the two countries have similar views on the international agenda”. Belarus and the Republic of Korea promote cooperation across a variety of fields, Sergei Maskevich said. He emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation in industry, investments, science and technologies. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea to Belarus Kang Weon Sik noted that Korea celebrates the National Foundation Day on 3 October. The year 2012 marks the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with Belarus. The ambassador expressed confidence that relying on what has already been achieved the Republic of Korea and Belarus will be able to make a powerful breakthrough in their relations. According to the diplomat, the bilateral cooperation is gaining momentum across all the areas, including politics, economy, culture and education. Kang Weon Sik praised the level of the Belarusian science and emphasized the need to strengthen sci-tech ties with Belarus. The diplomat believes that an increasing number of Belarusians taking up Korean language classes attests to the growing interest in Korea on the part of Belarus. The embassy of the Republic of Korea in Belarus is working hard to introduce Belarusians to Korean culture, history and traditions, the diplomat said. A Korean concert was held in the summer to mark the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties with Belarus; the Day of Korean Culture was held in Minsk on 8 September. In October-November Belarusians will have an opportunity to learn more about Korean music and cinema. A taekwondo competition for the prize of the Korean Ambassador will be held. A Korean TV series will be broadcast on the Belarusian television. The Ambassador expressed confidence that thanks to joint efforts the cooperation between Belarus and the Republic of Korea will make progress. “Korea is a reliable partner of Belarus,” the diplomat said.
