LJUBLJANA, 6 December (BelTA) – Belarus has launched large-scale projects in power engineering and construction in partnership with Slovenian companies, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Yelena Kupchina said at the business forum “Belarus-Slovenia” in Ljubljana on 5 December, BelTA has learnt. “The scale and objectives of the joint projects are very important in the context of the bilateral cooperation. It allows us to say that the history of Belarus-Slovenia trade and economic relations is unfolding now, so the interested businessmen should take advantage of it,” the diplomat said. She emphasized that there is a number of promising cooperation areas, including nuclear power, chemical industry, mechanical engineering, telecommunications and information technologies, tourism, transport and logistics, transit, and other areas. According to Yelena Kupchina, credit and investment contracts are an important part and a starting point for the expansion of the bilateral cooperation. Belarus is working to raise foreign capital and technologies. In 2012 some $3.7 billion in foreign direct investments on the net basis is expected to be injected in the national economy. The Deputy Foreign Minister expressed hope that Slovenian entrepreneurs will bring modern technologies, know-how, expertise and knowledge to Belarus. “The both countries would benefit from that. The process has been given a good start with the arrival of leading Slovenian businessmen to Belarus,” Yelena Kupchina said. At present Slovenia’s Riko d.o.o. is taking part in the implementation of a project to construct two electric substations in Minsk. The project is estimated at ?54 million. One of the substations was commissioned this summer. Riko d.o.o. was the general contractor of the construction project. The Slovenian company is involved in other projects run by the Energy Ministry of Belarus. In February 2012 an agreement was reached to construct a hotel complex featuring 5 star Hotel Kempinski in Minsk. A number of joint projects in telecommunications with the Slovenian company Iskratel are being considered. БЕЛТА
