Early voting in Belarus on 18-22 March

17.03.2014

Early voting will be conducted in Belarus on 18-22 March, BelTA learnt from Secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Nikolai Lozovik.  Early voting will be held at all polling stations, except for those set up at military units, recreation and rehabilitation facilities and hospitals. Nikolai Lozovik noted that early voting will be conducted only at polling stations; members of election commissions will not come to voters’ homes.  The CEC Secretary underlined that any voter will be able to cast their ballot during early voting. A voter does not have to provide a reason to vote early. It is enough to come to a polling station with a passport, a driving license, a military ID for people serving their mandatory military service, a pension ID if it has a photo, a civil service pass, a student ID. If a passport was lost, a voter should present a document proving it. The document should be issued by the Interior Ministry. Russian nationals permanently residing in Belarus will also be able to vote; they need to present their residence permit at a polling station.  Polling stations will be open from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00.  Now election campaigning is going on in Belarus. It will conclude on 22 March. Over 22,000 people were registered as local election candidates and are seeking a seat at local councils of deputies.
