Belarus attends Eastern Europe and Central Asia HIV/AIDS Conference in Moscow 12-13 May

The IV Eastern Europe and Central Asia HIV/AIDS Conference will be held in Moscow on 12-13 May, BelTA informs with the reference to the organizers of the event which are Rospotrebnadzor, the Federal Service on Customers' Rights Protection and Human Well-Being Surveillance, and the UNAIDS. Special attention will be given to the measures on how to combat HIV/AIDS, implemented at national and regional level, including Eastern Europe and Central Asia, latest achievements of science in the field of the epidemiology and prevention of HIV, development of new treatments and diagnostics. Attending the conference will be Michel Sidibe, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Director of UNAIDS, Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, Denmark, Michel Kazatchkine, United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and others. Member of the Board of the Belarusian community of people living with HIV Evgeny Spevak will make welcoming remarks on behalf of the organizations of the people living with HIV in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The program of the conference includes plenary sessions, parallel sessions, fair of projects, seminars along the topics: Science and Health, Civil Society, Promoting International Development. A representative of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry will make a report on the HIV/AIDS situation in the country. The Russian government has allocated funds to assist the Central Asian and Caucasus countries in the fight against HIV/AIDS in 2013-2015. The first results of the demonstration project on combating the HIV/AIDS in Central Asia will be presented at the conference. The conference will conclude with a ceremony to donate mobile diagnostic and treatment centers from the Russian government to the governments of Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.
