Belarus in talks with western companies over joint food processing ventures

Belarus is talking over with a number of western companies an opportunity of setting up joint processing companies for further food supplies, including to the Russian Federation, Leonid Zayats, Agriculture and Food Minister of Belarus told media at a meeting at the CIS Executive Committee on 26 August to discuss the entrance of Belarusian agricultural producers to the federal trade networks of Moscow.
“Today we are in talks with the Baltic states, Poland discussing joint processing of fruit and vegetables, dairy products with an aim to process this raw material for consumption in Belarus and supplies to third countries,” the minister said. Leonid Zayats did not comment on possible time for such companies to be set up.
According to Director of the Foreign Trade Department at the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Igor Nazaruk, after Russia has introduced sanctions foreign food producers keep addressing Belarus with proposals for joint processing of products.
On 7 August 2014 the Russian Federation imposed a one-year ban on the supplies of beef, pork, poultry, fish, cheese, milk, fruit and vegetables from Australia, Canada, the EU, the United States and Norway. On 20 August spawns, delactosed milk and dairy products, seed potato, sugar corn, pea, dietary supplements and vitamins were excluded from the list.
Belarus and Russia agreed on Belarus' supplies of products processed from the European raw material to Russia.
