Number of Belarus-U.S. companies up 35.5% over two years

11.09.2014

The number of Belarus-U.S. joint ventures has risen by 35.5% over the two years, Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the meeting with U.S. Charge d' Affaires in Belarus Scott Rauland at the Belarusian government headquarters on 11 September.
“Over the past two years, despite the uneasy relations in politics, the number of Belarus-U.S. joint ventures rose by 100 up to 382. These joint ventures are different in terms of their economic performance; there are both quite successful companies and small enterprises. We believe that we should keep working in this field,” the Belarusian head of government said.
Mikhail Myasnikovich informed that the trade between Belarus and the United States is pretty vibrant; the dynamics of the bilateral economic cooperation is encouraging. “There are many issues that could be solved in order to ramp up cooperation between Belarusian and American businesses. We will provide any kind of assistance to facilitate cooperation in the service sector. We already have some good solutions and projects in the field of computer services. This demonstrates the versatility of our interaction,” the Premier said.
He noted that Belarus appreciates the constructive support of the United States of Belarus' efforts to join the World Trade Organization and the joint efforts on many issues within the framework of the United Nations. Visa formalities are being eased for individual groups of Belarusian and American citizens.
The Belarusian head of government reminded that the first Belarus-U.S. investment forum is due in New York on 22 September. “We invite representatives of leading U.S. companies to take part in the forum. We would appreciate your recommendations for the American business. We would like to discuss our cooperation in trade, economy and investments and ways to engage international financial institutions into it,” he said.
Besides, Mikhail Myasnikovich suggested considering the expansion of the Belarus-U.S. Business Cooperation Council. He emphasized that Belarus will do its best to create comfortable conditions for implementing joint projects and promoting cooperation.
Scott Rauland noted that the U.S. is considering a possibility to expand the bilateral cooperation with Belarus in the areas of mutual interest.
