World Bank to contribute to Belarus economy balanced development action plan

17.09.2014

Experts of the World Bank will suggest their own measures to expand the Belarus government's action plan, which is designed to secure the balanced and sustainable development of the national economy, BelTA learned from Belarusian Economy Minister Nikolai Snopkov.
During the visit of the World Bank's Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Laura Tuck to Belarus it was agreed that World Bank experts will speak their point of view regarding the expansion of the action plan. Belarus is ready to work out the relevant measures and implement them together in a systemic and productive manner on a long-term basis, stressed Nikolai Snopkov.
The Economy Minister said that together with experts of the World Bank they were going to specify a system of measures to provide social aid to the population, support enterprises for the duration of structural changes, which in the short term are going to affect low-income population strata and insolvent enterprises one way or another.
“It will not happen suddenly. It will not happen tomorrow. These changes take some time. Our job is to carry them out accurately, consistently, calmly without causing any misbalance in the economy or the society,” noted the Economy Minister.
The Belarus government adopted the action plan to secure the balanced sustainable development of the national economy in August. The action plan lists short-term and long-term measures. “We are analyzing and making conclusions in view of the problems that exist regarding the development of the country's economy, in view of our understanding of the reasons behind the rather low economic growth. We understand what we have to do to stabilize it and make it acceptable in the medium term,” said the Belarusian Economy Minister.
