Belarus ahead of China, Russia, Kazakhstan in 2014 Prosperity Index

Belarus has moved up from the 58th to the 53rd place in 2014 Prosperity Index published by the British Legatum Institute, BelTA has learned.
According to the Legatum Institute website, Belarus outperforms China (54th), Kazakhstan (55th), Ukraine (63rd), Russia (68th), Azerbaijan (79th), and Moldova (89th).
Russia is the worst performing country in Europe, falling seven places to 68th. Kazakhstan lost eight positions to rank 55th in 2014.
Norway is a repeated leader, and is followed by Switzerland, that also retained its place from last year, and New Zealand, moving three places higher than last year's index. The top ten most prosperous countries in the world also include Denmark, Canada, Sweden, Australia, Finland, the Netherlands, and the USA.
The UK was recognized as the most prosperous among the largest European countries. It took 13th place in the overall standings. Germany won the 14th place, France — 21th, Spain — 26th, Italy — 37th.
Lithuania ranks 42nd, Latvia – 44th. Greece is 59th followed by Romania.
Among the major developing countries, Brazil ranks 49th, China — 54th, Mexico — 64th, Indonesia — 71st, Turkey — 86th, India — 102nd.
The Central African Republic finishes bottom of the rankings.
The Legatum Institute Index assesses 142 countries, representing more than 96% of the world's population and 99% of global GDP. Index Legatum Institute evaluates eight categories: economy, education, healthcare, personal freedom, security, business opportunities, management, and social capital.
