Myasnikovich hopeful of higher farm export earnings in 2015

13.11.2014

Despite the devaluation of the Russian ruble, Belarusian exporters of agricultural products have every reason to expect an increase in export earnings to $7 billion in 2015, Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said during a visit to the international food industry expo Prodexpo 2014.
The Prime Minister said that Belarus has significantly boosted the farm produce exports to Russia this year. Yet when calculated in U.S. terms, domestic agricultural producers have incurred losses as compared to 2013. This creates certain difficulties with reaching the target of $6.2 billion this year, said Mikhail Myasnikovich.
"But I think that together with the Russian Federation we will be able to settle, to a certain extent, these issues (though the performance of the Eurasian Economic Commission was very poor on this front), and earn $7 billion on farm exports next year. There are all preconditions for that,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich.
He recalled that the share of Belarus-made meat and dairy products is quite large in the total Russian import. We are increasing the production of the goods that are in demand both in Russia and other markets. Just today we discussed possible big deals to supply dairy products to China and other markets, the head of government informed.
"Moreover, we expect that the Russian ruble would slightly gain against the dollar. Therefore, foreign exchange revenues of the Belarusian exporters will increase,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich. According to the forecast announced earlier, the agricultural production growth rate is projected to increase by 3%, export by 13% in 2015.
