Belarus prime minister in favor of investing in new promising economy branches

08.06.2015

Investing in new promising branches of the economy is the right idea. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov made the relevant statement in an interview with the analytical program Kontury of the Belarusian TV channel ONT, BelTA has learned. According to the Prime Minister, raising investments is not the key problem today. The Belarusian head of state also mentioned it during the opening of the Belarusian-Indian business forum. “The key problem is finding the projects that will guarantee the return of the investments and that are necessary for our own development, for possible export,” stressed Andrei Kobyakov. In his opinion, the most developed branches of the Belarusian economy, in which the country enjoys a certain competitive advantage, are worth investing in. Yet the Prime Minister noted: “But I think that it is necessary to invest in new branches that will dominate in the 21st century.” “We need state-of-the-art enterprises, modern technologies. After adding our accomplishments into the mix, primarily intellectual labor and highly qualified workforce, we should get a new product that will substitute imports on the home market of the Eurasian Economic Union,” stressed the Belarusian head of government. “Import substitution first, export expansion later,” he added. The Prime Minister noted that the utilization of high technologies will be kind of a catalyst for domestic R&D. As far as human resources are concerned, there are no problems with those in Belarus, noted Andrei Kobyakov.
