Election 2015. Over 86% of Belarusians plan to vote

Over 86% of Belarusians plan to cast their ballot in the presidential election slated for 11 October 2015, says the public opinion poll commissioned jointly by the Information and Analysis Center and the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, BelTA has learned. According to the survey, almost the entire population of the country, 96.7%, know about the forthcoming election of the President of Belarus. Some 86.2 per cent of Belarusians plan to cast their ballot in October's presidential election, with residents of Minsk, Brest and Grodno Oblasts leading the way at 91.4%, 89.7% and 89.1% respectively. The expected turnout is higher among the rural population than city dwellers (91.7% and 84.1% correspondingly) and among women than men (89.2% and 82.5%). The poll also revealed higher numbers among adult population planning to go to the polls (91.2% of respondents over 60 years old, 87.5% of respondents aged between 30 and 59, and 79.6% of respondents aged between 18 and 29). Some 67.7 per cent of Belarusians named civil duty as their main reason to vote. One in three (33%) will go to the polls to express their opinion and attitude to the current situation in the country.
