No plans to amend tax laws in Belarus in 2016

29.12.2015

There are no plans to amend the tax legislation of the Republic of Belarus in 2016. If such need arises, the business will be informed about possible changes in advance, Belarus' Taxes and Duties Minister Sergei Nalivayko told an online press-conference hosted by BelTA's website.
"Participants to the meeting chaired by the head of state discussed our proposal to introduce the moratorium on tax laws. The following decision was made: in 2015 the tax legislation would be fine-tuned, some adjustments would be made if necessary. In 2016, no amendments will be introduced to the tax laws,” said Sergei Nalivayko. "We are as happy about this decision as our taxpayers because it will be easier to administer taxes and control tax payments," the Minister added.
According to him, if circumstances are such that amendments would be necessary, they would be announced in advance. Thus, the business will know about what changes are coming in 2017. “Thus, business will be able to rebuild their business plans and models to respond to changing conditions. Our main task is to make should these changes should not be necessary. What is needed is a balanced approach and responsibility before citizens,” Sergei Nalivayko said. He explained that any amendment at the national level entails adjustments to the software used by the tax authorities and by business entities. Country-wide this results in significant expenses.
The moratorium means that the rules for paying taxes will not change throughout the year. This should make the tax laws more stable, and simple and intelligible for payers.
