The year 2015 saw a record number of births in Belarus, Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Natalia Kochanova said at a meeting of the board of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry, BelTA has learned.
The previous record over the past twenty years was registered in 2014 with 118,500 newborns. The year 2015 turned out to be even more successful in this respect. As many as 119,506 births were recorded. “This is an amazing result,” Natalia Kochanova noted.
The Healthcare Ministry said that the birth rate in the country increased by 9.6% from 11.5 per thousand in 2011 to 12.6 in 2015 thanks to the concerted efforts of Belarusian health institutions and organizations. The perinatal centers report the survival rate of newborns weighing 500-1,000 grams at 82%.
There is a well-developed network of medical genetic centers in the country. More than 1,600 babies were born using assisted reproductive technology in 2011-2015. The effectiveness of this technology is over 40%.
In 2015 no maternal deaths were recorded.
