Belarus' Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Mikhail Portnoi hopes for prompt simplification of visa regulations for foreign travelers. He made the statement during the online conference Tourist Season 2016: Trends and Forecasts hosted by BelTA on 31 March.
“We are currently busy with relaxing visa procedures for countries without migration problems. We are doing this together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Economy Ministry, the Finance Ministry. I have big hopes that such a decision will be taken in the near future. For instance, Europeans are not used to visas any more and for them it is hard to go through all these administrative procedures,” noted Mikhail Portnoi.
The facilitation of the visa regime has its impact on tourist flows. However, the work in this direction proceeds not so fast as it could be. “We have introduced a visa-free regime with Turkey, then with Israel, simplified visa regulations with China and canceled visas for short trips to the Belovezhskaya Pushcha. As a result the number of visitors to the Belovezhskaya Pushcha has increased 1.5 times,” the deputy minister said.
