Belarus expects progress in removal of exemptions, restrictions in EEU trade

14.04.2016

Belarus expects considerable advances in the removal of exemptions and restrictions in mutual trade between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said during the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Moscow on 13 April, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus believes that the main objective is to remove exemptions and restrictions in mutual trade. In this context, I invite you to consider our idea once again and collect the proposals of the parties regarding the initial list of 10-20 exemptions and take measures to swiftly eliminate them. Belarus expects there will be considerable advances in this work after the structural changes in the commission, including the appointment of an Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Board member for the functioning of internal markets and the establishment of a relevant department,” Andrei Kobyakov noted.
He added that the Belarusian side also expects that the coordinating role of the EEC in resolving differences between the EEU member states will be reinforced. First of all, this relates to ensuring free trade and equal access to government purchases and providing tariff and non-tariff protection of the EEU market, especially in light of the accession of new countries to the union and Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organization.
