Belarus has potential to reach $7.5bn in food exports

10.10.2016

Belarus has the potential to increase its food exports to $7.5 billion, Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy said in an interview to the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“The program envisaged for the implementation in 2016-2020 should provide us with the possibility to reach the potential of $7-7.5 billion. We must add $2 billion more over the period,” said the Vice Premier. This goal will be met through the growth of labor productivity, cost reduction and the production of value added products.
In his words, reaching $7.5 billion in food exports is achievable.
As for the geography of exports, Belarus has been working hard to secure its footing on the traditional markets and develop new ones. “We trade with almost 50 countries. In my opinion, we have good markets which we cannot lose. At the same time, we should work to develop third markets, and this is exactly what we have been doing,” Mikhail Rusy said.
