A clean-up event will be held in Kuropaty on 25 March, Chairman of
the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Mikhail Orda told reporters,
BelTA has learned.
“The Federation of Trade Unions invites all concerned citizens,
organizations regardless of their political affiliation, people of all
religions, to take part in this good project,” Mikhail Orda said. He
noted that applications for participation from citizens and
organizations are already coming in.
Mikhail Orda also noted that plans have been made to announce a
contest for the design of the memorial to be erected in Kuropaty. The
competition will be open to all. The memorial should reflect the
historical significance of Kuropaty, Mikhail Orda noted.
“We must work together to overcome the difficulties and to preserve
the memory. You cannot earn dubious political dividends capitalizing on
the memory, more so by using these provocations to destabilize the
society,” Mikhail Orda said.
Mikhail Orda recalled that during the roundtable in the SB. Belarus
Segodnya newspaper scientists and public figures spoke in favor of
establishing a memorial in Kuropaty. The Belarusian Federation of Trade
Unions supports this idea.
For decades, the Federation of Trade Unions, labor collectives, youth
and veterans' organizations have been engaged in the large-scale effort
to restore the monuments.
