Belarus is interested in developing cooperation with the UN in the environmental field

Belarus is interested in developing cooperation with the UN and its agencies in the environmental field, said Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus Andrei Khudyk during a meeting with the UN Resident Coordinator, the Permanent Representative of the UN Development Program and the UNFPA Representative in Belarus, John Kazan-Vishnevetsky . BelTA learned from the Ministry of Natural Resources.  
The prospects of the ministry’s interaction with a number of UN agencies and agencies, the implementation of environmental projects, international technical assistance, and the expansion of Belarus’s participation were brought up for discussion. “Our cooperation with the United Nations and its agencies gives a positive result. In this direction there is a serious progress. We see great benefit in our cooperation and we are interested in its further development,” said Andrey Khudyk.    
John Kazan-Vishnevetsky, in turn, also noted the importance of cooperation with the Ministry of Environment of Belarus. "Implementation of environmental projects is a big part of our work, and your department plays a major role. Without your participation as a government body, they would not be so successful," she stressed. "Today, UN agencies implement four full-scale international projects in the country technical assistance in the field of the environment and 13 projects within the framework of small grants that solve tasks at the local level and are no less important. We are ready to continue to support the efforts of the Government of Belarus in SDGs, transition to a green economy, renewable energy development, waste management. Currently, four more major environmental projects are at different stages of preparation.We will be happy to further support in attracting new ideas and opportunities to the country, determining our development path in the environmental field ".    
The meeting also discussed the strategy of Belarus’s cooperation with the UN in such areas as the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement measures, smart and sustainable cities, and electric transport.
