Plans to improve quality of education at Belarusian schools

22.08.2019

The quality of secondary education in Belarus should be significantly improved, Education Minister Igor Karpenko told reporters prior to the session of the Education Ministry Board to discuss measures to improve the quality of secondary education. The session took place at Maxim Tank Belarusian State Pedagogical University on 21 August, BelTA has learned.
“The quality of education has many aspects, including teacher education and competencies, the use of advanced teaching techniques, as well as the management of educational process in each school (school timetable, combination of elective and core courses), the ability of a teacher to explain material and improve students' overall learning outcomes,” Igor Karpenko said.
In his words, gradual upgrade of the curriculum at schools has been underway since the 2015-2016 academic year. “This resulted in the meaningful improvement of learning and teaching standards, curricular, textbooks and teaching aids and techniques. This work will be continued,” the minister said. Igor Karpenko recalled that high school students can choose a major. “Last year, students of the 8th-9th grades got an opportunity to choose a core course with specified classes in the core subject area.
Students with low academic achievements can study in the basic 10th grade. They are offered vocational courses,” the minister noted. The source: https://eng.belta.by/society/view/plans-to-improve-quality-of-education-at-belarusian-schools-123526-2019/
