All-Belarusian prayer for peace will be heard on June 22 in all churches of Belarus

19.06.2025

The All-Belarusian Prayer for Peace will be heard in all churches of Belarus on June 22, when the country will mark a mournful date — the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, BelTA learned from Alexander Rumak, Commissioner for Religious and National Affairs.

«It has become a good tradition for religious organizations to hold the All-Belarusian Prayer for Peace on significant holidays and days of remembrance for the Belarusian people. On the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, June 22, morning services will be held in all churches of the Belarusian Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Churches, which will end with a special bell ringing at 12:00 in memory of the victims of the war and the genocide of the Belarusian people,» Alexander Rumak said.

The All-Belarusian Prayer for Peace will not only be a tribute to the heroes and innocent victims of that terrible war. It will sound as a reminder to the current generations about the value of peace and well-being in homes, the Commissioner for Religious and National Affairs emphasized.

«Why a prayer for peace? It is an edification about the need to protect and defend our moral and spiritual foundations and, of course, to be ready to stand up for our native land, if suddenly, God forbid, such a need arises,» said Alexander Rumak.

The Commissioner for Religious and National Affairs noted that the Belarusian people remember their heroes, those who fell during the war. And at the same time, all people, regardless of religious affiliation, pray for the preservation of peace in their native land, despite the threats around the country.

A nationwide minute of silence will be announced exactly at noon on June 22. The metronome will sound a mournful echo in memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people.
